Wisdom to take you into 2026

This Christmas we’re sharing three pieces of wisdom from people we encountered through our work this year. Each one helped us to connect and create better. We hope they spark something useful as you step into 2026.

1. THE FUTURE HIDES IN THE THINGS WE THROW AWAY

A colourful graphic reads: "Our waste is a mirror of our changing tastes, our needs, dreams and desires".

For a touring exhibition on how humans shape the natural world we created a sculptural landscape of waste. It’s uncomfortable to look in the bin, but every object we get rid of holds a clue. As we examined more closely, the hidden patterns in our choices came into view, and with them, the opportunity to create an experience that truly inspired action.

2. SOMETIMES IT'S GOOD TO DROP YOUR GUARD

A colourful graphic reads "Being ready, being humble, and just speaking from the heart is important".

This was told to us by a professor specialising in indigenous knowledge in environmental policy, whom we interviewed about wildfires and the frontline of climate change in California. When conversation gets difficult, it’s natural to tighten up. But we can learn from those who ease their grip; people who are ok getting disagreements out and on the table. This openness enables more people to shape the decisions that affect us all.

3. CREATE A SPACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN BE HONEST

A colourful graphic reads "When we look after ourselves, our children learn the good in that".

These words came from a mother who worked with us to shape a new health trial. Often in a research process people try to give the selfless answer. But here, when the exchange felt relaxed and reciprocal, something different happened. Her honesty helped reveal what would genuinely support families, and the design became more meaningful as a result.
